Nest-Ready

After we moved to our little house in 2006, people have been making remarks about “nesting” at times, when all I felt we were doing is ridding the house from it’s very colorful wall decorations and generally just moving furniture around, hanging up pictures and such.

While it was easy to ignore the suggestive comments before and after we got married, they increased as soon as the pregnancy was official, and not long into the third trimester it turned into reality: The biggest house-improvement project ever. From turning the office/guest bedroom into Baby’s room to things that newborns pay a lot of attention to, such as new kitchen worktops and lighting, or general garden appearance, we’ve been terribly busy doing what I can finally happily describe as nesting.

It all had to start with changing attitudes from “maƱana” to “getting things done”, and lists guided throughout this lovely time of a pregnancy. But not any more. As of this morning, which involved changing a lighbulb that blew out earlier this week, and painting over the wall where once was a grimy kitchen blind, we’re officially done. I’m still new to this concept, so the lack of discomfort because I should be doing something else is quite hilarious.

I could’ve never done it without the credit crunch (I had to change companies recently, queue taking lots of holidays and having 10 days off between jobs), but should you be either in the same situation, or be more energic than me, I can only recommend it. All the rolling-eyes and do-we-have-to-do-this has resulted in a beautiful home that I’m excited to raise Baby in.

We’re due today

The only thing is, nothing seems to be happening. And, as it’s almost 11pm, I guess it won’t today. I mean, it could in the next hour. It could, but I don’t think it will. The baby is very active right now, squirming and twisting. For some reason, I think that, when the baby was getting ready to make his or her appearance, there will be less movement. Did I read that somewhere? I don’t remember…
